First place for IMO trainees

Success in the ‘Like A Boss’ business simulation game

At the end of November, four trainees and one dual student from IMO Oberflächentechnik GmbH took part in the ‘Like a Boss’ business simulation game. As ‘bosses for a day’, they prevailed and ultimately took first place in the competition against nine other trainee teams. ‘We are proud of our winning team and congratulate them warmly on this great success,’ says IMO training manager Hubert Maisenbacher.

The simulation game took place at the premises of Rosenberger Stanztechnik GmbH & Co. KG in Neuenbürg. From morning until afternoon, the trainees and dual students from the ten participating companies in the Enz district were given the opportunity to independently manage a virtual company. The business simulation game simulates three financial years in which economic challenges, necessary decisions, competition and management issues have to be mastered. All teams had the same starting position and this year had to establish a company for the production and sale of e-scooters on the market. The winner was the team whose company had the highest share price at the end of the game. This year’s winners were the ‘young entrepreneurs’ from IMO, who each received a smartwatch. Second place went to the trainees from the Enzkreis district administration office, and third place went to the group from Admedes GmbH in Pforzheim.

During the simulation game, the teams worked independently on their company’s success in each round. During the interim evaluations, they received general information and tips that they could apply directly. At the beginning of the simulation game, i.e. after the first financial year, the IMO team was only in 6th place, but catapulted itself to the top in the second financial year thanks to a change in strategy. The task now was to maintain the company’s growth in the final financial year, which they successfully achieved.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to the Enzkreis District Office for organising the event, the Steinbeis Innovation Centre for setting the tasks, and Rosenberger for their hospitality.
